Bio/Research

The first explores the neurobiological mechanisms involved in the reacquisition of drug-seeking behavior; a learning process central to drug relapse. Our recent studies have focused on the reacquisition of heroin seeking using intravenous self-administration, conditioned place preference, intracranial administrations and immunohistochemistry.

The second focuses on studying the behavioural effects of exposure to drugs of abuse, with specific emphasis on modulation of learning, memory and reward-seeking behaviours by heroin, methadone and cocaine.

The third program of research focuses on the comorbidity between mood disorders and vulnerability to drug and food addictions. Our animal studies are aimed at uncovering common neurobiological substrates that predispose an individual to develop a depressed phenotype as well as compulsive alcohol, nicotine, heroin, cocaine and food seeking.
