Bio/Research

I am interested in the applied ethics of scholarship. I believe scholarly research should be a sceptical practice that insistently questions truth claims of all kinds—textual, theological, ideological—and at the same time a worldly practice of hermeneutically informed interpretation that takes responsibility for what our best critically-sifted evidence points us toward as truth.

The same critical methods and principles have been in play throughout my scholarly research, whether in the critical editing of 16th-century texts, the study of unapprehended textual filiations in early modern intellectual history, and the analysis of contemporary polemics over ‘political correctness’, or alternatively in assessments of the evidence of systematic fraud in recent US elections, in contemporary ‘false-flag’ terrorism, and in that complex structure of resource-war aggressions and domestic repression that goes by the name of the ‘war on terror.’
