Bio/Research

Nikki Martyn has led all administrative and academic aspects of the program, managed faculty while guiding course development and finding opportunities for innovative learning, and overseen the redevelopment of the program curriculum, ECS field placement manuals and the Early Childhood Degree Completion program.

With more than 15 years of experience in children’s mental health, Martyn has a background in both clinical child psychology and early childhood education, with a specific expertise in infant mental health. She founded MindWerx4Kids Therapeutic Primary School, an innovative integrated therapeutic elementary school for grades K to 8, and also spent time as Infant Mental Health Specialist at the Hincks-Dellcrest Children Mental Health Centre.

Martyn holds a doctorate in Early Childhood Education and Child Psychology from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. In addition to her experience at the University of Guelph-Humber, Martyn has taught academic courses at Ryerson University and York University. She was a recipient of a University of Guelph-Humber research grant to explore the effects of medical trauma on the diagnosis of Autism. Martyn was also the winner of Humber College’s Student Appreciation Award for Mentorship.
