Bio/Research

Dr. Davies’ research investigates equity and social justice issues in early childhood education (ECE) and care and K-12 schooling, particularly as it pertains to gender and sexual diversity and disability. Their research analyzes the sociocultural construction and regulation of madness, disability, and gender and sexuality in education, as well as femmephobia and the societal regulation and devaluation of femininity. Their research employs queer theory, trans studies, critical disability studies, femme theory, and mad studies. Davies' current research projects investigate gay men’s relationship with nutrition and body image, mental illness and professional identity in pre-service ECE, and men and masculinities in ECE.

Davies supervises students in the Critical Studies in Improvisation, Social Practice and Transformational Change, and Family Relations and Applied Nutrition graduate programs.
