Dr. Gordon specializes in the public uses of history, primarily in Canada. He has published three books on how Canadians have interacted with and used the past. The first examined the history of monuments and historic plaques in Montreal. The second book traced the uses of historical figures, focusing on Jacques Carter, over time.
