Bio/Research

With a Ph.D. in Social Work and Psychology (Community) from the University of Michigan, Prof. Ben Gottlieb taught and specialized in the field of stress and coping, with a specific focus on the measurement and health-protective effects of social support. In addition, he has planned interventions involving the mobilization, augmentation, and specialization of social support for poulations at risk in the community.

Prof. Gottlieb has authored several books and scholarly papers on coping, social support, and work-family balance among family caregivers of persons affected by dementia. Now retired after a 41-year career at the University of Guelph, Gottlieb maintains a strong interest and consulting activities related to these topics. He is currently a Fellow of both the Canadian and American Psychological Associations.
