Dr. Robinson's lab uses a variety of methods to study how new fish biodiversity forms in Canada's freshwater aquatic systems. The diversity of fishes in Canadian lakes is influenced by different processes that occurred long ago in glacial refugia, more recently as fishes dispersed across the postglacial lakescape, and most recently within the young lakes that Robinson can swim in. A recent focus is on how fish select their habitats, and how their brains change as a result. Robison's lab also studies how commercially harvested fish in Lake Erie respond to changing environmental conditions, and how this influences their performance.
