Bio/Research

Professor Sheldrick studied Political Science at Carleton University before going to law school at the University of Toronto. He then returned to the study of Political Science, completing his MA and PhD at York University in Toronto. He previously taught in the Law department at Keele University in the U.K., and the Department of Politics at the University of Winnipeg. His research straddles the intersection of law and political science. His overall approach is informed by political economy and the conceptualization of political phenomena in terms of their relationship to economic factors. He is interested in social movements, particularly anti-poverty groups, and their mobilization around the welfare state and community economic development initiatives.

He has a deep interest in issues related to human rights and social justice, and the incorporation of law into the organization of states.
