Bio/Research

Dr. Ballantyne's current research examines the metabolic design of aquatic organisms in both an adaptive and an evolutionary context. His interest in aquatic organisms began at an early age as he grew up fishing on the Rideau River system in Ontario. This was reinforced and focused in his undergraduate and graduate degrees where he developed interests in physiology and biochemistry. His Ph.D. at the University of British Columbia with Peter Hochachka fixed his interests in the mechanisms of biochemical adaptation.

Ballantyne was an NSERC University Research Fellow for the first 10 years of his appointment at the University of Guelph. He has been a panel member and Chair of the NSERC Strategic Grants Biosciences panel and is currently a member of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors of the Huntsman Marine Science Centre in St. Andrews, New Brunswick.
