Bio/Research

Prof. Emeritus Ken Menzies earned an undergraduate degree in Politics and Economics at Queen’s, a Master’s degree in Sociology at the London School of Economics and a doctorate in sociology at the University of Essex. He taught in the Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Guelph from 1972 to 2010, mainly courses about sociological theory and about the criminal justice system. He has written two books on sociological theory and numerous articles, mostly on the criminal justice system, but also topics as diverse as alternative health care and vegetarianism. He is currently writing a book entitled A People Serving Society. This presents the social structure of as good a society as possible from the point of view of progressive values. Its focus is not how to reach a better society, but what would work better than what we have now: everything from the tax structure to the welfare system.
