Bio/Research

Research in Dr. Alpaugh’s lab focuses on understanding the role of protein misfolding to common degenerative disorders of the brain such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease, with a specific focus on Huntington’s disease.

One particular area of interest is in understanding the interplay between disease-associated proteins and the blood-brain barrier, an important interface between the brain and the rest of the body. To facilitate this research, Alpaugh has developed a 3D cell culture model of the human blood-brain barrier.
