Bio/Research

Dr. Hamann’s research combines her academic background in Political Science with an interest in socio-economic development and global inequalities. She investigates the political economy of agrarian change and commodity extraction in sub-Saharan Africa, with a special focus on the palm oil sector.

Hamann holds a PhD in Political Science and International Development Studies from the University of Guelph and an MA in International Relations from Jacobs University and the University of Bremen.

Prior to joining the University of Guelph in 2012, she worked for the German development agency GIZ. Hamann was born and raised in Germany and has conducted extensive field work in Burkina Faso and Cameroon.
