Bio/Research

Prof. Jasmin Lalonde became captivated by the intricacies of the brain while studying neuroscience at the University of Ottawa. His enthusiasm for the scientific study of the nervous system led him to McGill University, where his focus on the molecular basis of activity-dependent visual cortex plasticity earned him a Ph.D. in 2008.

As a Postdoctoral Fellow at Tufts University School of Medicine, Lalonde continued his training in molecular and cellular neuroscience. This experience led to a position at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Center for Genomic Research, where he was able to further develop his skills in neuropharmacology, translational neuroscience, stem cell biology, mass spectrometry, and the development of assays adapted for image-based, high-throughput phenotypic screening with primary neuronal cells.

While at MGH, Lalonde collaborated on projects investigating the molecular underpinnings of neuropsychiatric disorders, such as bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, through the Stanley Center for Psychiatric Research at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard.

Lalonde joined the College of Biological Science at the University of Guelph in the summer of 2017, where he now leads the Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience. His research examines the pathogenesis of different brain disorders, and works to help recognize original targets for pharmacological intervention and treatment of conditions such as schizophrenia, intellectual disability, and autism spectrum disorders.
