Bio/Research

Founding dean of the Lang School of Business and Economics (currently on administrative leave), Julia has long been an advocate for radically changing the focus of business schools towards stakeholder capitalism and sustainable leadership. Championing "business as a force for good" Julia has spoken at the United Nations General Assembly and convened meetings in Davos, WEF on the need to fundamentally change how business schools (and universities are ranked and rated).

Formally, President of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE), she has also championed transformational learning practices. Her 2010 co-edited book "Taking Stock: Research on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education" challenges practices of convenience within the academy and suggests that much more needs to be done to actively engage students and support their learning. Her work on academic misconduct (for which she has been routinely interviewed by the press) championed the need for facutly to engage in authentic forms of assessment as well as be ethically vigilant in their teaching and their research, in order to contribute to a culture of integrity.

Julia is currently co-editing two books (to be published 2021) that will update the work of Taking Stock and Integrity in the Academy.
