Bio/Research

Adam Sandford has been the Assistant Program Head of the Psychology program at University of Guelph-Humber (UofGH) since 2016 and is also an adjunct professor at the University of Guelph. With his team of research assistants, Sandford conducts projects related to face recognition and face perception. He recently authored a chapter in a new book about face processing systems, disorders, and cultural differences edited by Markus Bindemann and Ahmed Megreya.

Sandford has published peer-reviewed articles as first author or co-author in journals such as Cognition, Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology, and Perception. He is the chair of the Brain and Cognitive Sciences Section of the Canadian Psychological Association and vice chair of Science Rendezvous at UofGH. He also chairs and sits on various committees at UofGH, works with external partners to develop fruitful partnerships, and teaches the Psychology program's Honours Thesis.

Sandford was awarded several UofGH research grants in 2016, 2017, and 2018, and was the recipient of an author appreciation award in 2018 for his contributions to the scholarly community. He is presently working on numerous projects in collaboration with international scholars.

Sandford holds a Doctorate of Philosophy (Psychology) from the University of Aberdeen. In addition to his administrative and academic leadership at the University of Guelph-Humber, he has taught at the University of Aberdeen and several institutions across the Greater Toronto Area. He is also a registered teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers.
