The primary goals of Dr. Yoosefzadeh Najafabadi’s research program are 1) to uncover the genetic and biological foundations of bean traits that improve yield, quality, and resilience, and 2) to apply advanced tools such as artificial intelligence and multi-omics to accelerate crop improvement. His work focuses on understanding how beans respond to stress, including diseases, pests, and changing climate conditions, and how these responses can be guided through breeding and technology.
By investigating these questions, Dr. Yoosefzadeh Najafabadi aims to create “smarter” beans that are both more sustainable for farmers to grow and more nutritious for consumers. Integrating big data, genetics, and systems biology, his research explores whether artificial intelligence can identify hidden patterns in plant performance, and whether breeding strategies can be developed to strengthen resilience without sacrificing yield. Ultimately, this program seeks to bridge fundamental science with practical tools that benefit agriculture and food security.
